Reflections

What is Reflections?

Started in 1969 by the Colorado PTA President Mary Lou Anderson, Reflections has encouraged millions of students to express themselves by giving positive recognition for their artistic efforts. It is essentially an art contest.

As a local PTA with Active Status, the Stafford PTA is eligible to sponsor Reflections on our campus.

What can students submit?

Students may create and submit works of art in six categories:

  • Dance choreography
  • Film production
  • Literature
  • Musical composition
  • Photography
  • Visual arts

The theme for 2021 is “I Will Change The World By” Each entry must be the original work of one student and created specifically for the Reflections program based on the national theme.

How is it judged?

The Reflections program recognizes students at the local, council/region, state and national PTA levels. At each level, all entries are judged on interpretation of the theme, creativity and artistic merit.

Submissions are judged in divisions based on grade.

Who can participate?

The Reflections program is open to all Stafford students who have at least one person from their primary household as a current member of the Stafford Middle School PTA as of October 29, 2021. Make sure you join the PTA  https://staffordpta.org/shop/ by that date. Membership is only $10.

How does a student submit?

Complete the Reflections Student Entry Form, and turn in the form and Reflections submission to the campus art teacher or front office by  Friday, October 29, 2021. For entry forms & rules, checkout the Texas PTA website at

In your artist statement, tell us about your work and what it means to you:

  • How does your work relate to the theme?
  • What is your personal connection to the theme?
  • What did you use to create your work (e.g., supplies, technology, instrumentation, props, etc.)?
  • What/who was your inspiration?

In addition to the rule of creating an original work for this program based on the theme, each entry must conform to the Reflections guidelines developed by the National PTA.
